Random book rant because why not? I really want to read/finish this fiction book, and the unnamed author is frustrating. But if this were nonfiction, I’d have the same response. So, genre is not the point… unnecessary details are! Here goes:

You have 4 main characters. 3 have multiple little kids. Plus husbands. At the very least, the author can keep the kids’ names/”storylines” out of the book. I guarantee ppl stopped reading due to too many characters. Please don’t do this. Even ppl who love kids don’t care about every detail about a 3-year-old. Really, the husband’s name should be absent too. Unless there’s a related storyline, stop prolonging stories with unnecessary stuff. Why? Urgh. If I don’t finish, this will be why.

The real problem might be too many storylines/characters. Do this story with 2 main couples. (Plus, the new person with no kids. BUT this author had to mention her dad and little sister. WTF. Why, for the love of a book… please. No one cares. stop.)

So, back to a more ideal story: 3 main characters, but the new one is easy to remember. One kid each. Rarely mention details. No grandmas/aunts/dads unless necessary.

Not hard, but it must not be what the author desires, so I will quit halfway. I usually quit earlier, but I didn’t know new people would keep getting mentioned. How much can you mention what a 2-year-old did? IT’S NOT RELATED TO ANYTHING. Unnecessary details. Making the book longer. Pointless. So, I’m done.

Wait, and when the doctor says, “Have you thought of hurting A?” (Her daughter… I had to infer) Have the doctor or other people occasionally say, “Have you thought of hurting your daughter?” Or say 8-month-old or whatever. Remind people who these characters are. Does the author really expect people to remember every freaking kid? And their grandma? Who can forget Aunty? Well, I did. How unrealistic. And kinda annoying, and I’m pissed off, so I gotta go. Ugh.

Oooh. Found a note from another person who listened to the audiobook, “the author mistakenly calls her E. I listened 3 times. It’s very confusing.”

THANK YOU. Not just me. I didn’t even see that while reading. I was probably too confused or didn’t care enough to realize that was wrong. That was in the very beginning. I don’t think many would catch that, because how would you know unless you went back? I might give that person an A for attention to detail. Wow. Anyway, glad it’s not just me. Confusing, indeed.

I used to be a person who thought most fiction was too short. But it took me only a short time of reading 350-page fiction books to realize that this is rarely ever true. Keep them at 250 pages. 300 if good and necessary.

I’m seriously done now. Yes, I know authors can do whatever they want. Just sharing my opinion without repeatedly bashing this author and leaving her name out of it.

I was going to add my weekly section to this, but too tired. I did my 2021 year review in place of a post this week, so I will post this rant and keep it that way. I think I finished reading 2 books this week. I’ll add that to an upcoming week. I didn’t listen to a lot of music this week…mostly just Ingrid Andress.
