I’ve had “personal curricula” since I was 12 or 13. I was born that way, hello? But mine usually lasts a long time. I rarely say I’m going to spend one month doing something because I don’t do time. But since everyone is talking about it right in time for fall, I’m going to start something new.
I’m already taking a two-year astrology class. So, just doing astrology isn’t ideal or new. AKA it doesn’t give me a dopamine hit. And it’s the teacher’s curriculum. It was going well the first few months, but now the homework takes forever. It took me 6 weeks to do the last assignment when I was doing homework weekly.
I began learning about Human Design about three years ago. I took one (overpriced) class. It went okay. I didn’t like the pressure to talk on Zoom. I was definitely going through my ‘I can’t talk, please don’t make me’ phases, which lasts about 80% of the year. Guess what? I’m not in that phase now. I don’t want to meet people in coffee shops, but when I have to talk about something I’m passionate about, it doesn’t make me want to die.
See how talkative I am right now? I’m eager for this brief period to be over.
Anyway, human design is expensive to learn, and I started a curriculum about it in early 2024. It’s just a list of books in order, but I will create a more appealing circular list with podcasts and videos to make it more exciting in the future.

I made up a list of things I would like to consider starting to learn in October or November of this year:
- knitting
- board games/puzzles
- Book making
- embroidery
- true crime
- herbs
- reiki
- make a planner from “scratch”
Book making or binding will probably win. I have one inexpensive kit from Amazon, so I do have some materials. Book binding is also easy to make into a curriculum.
Knitting has a lot of projects to chose from. There’s ton of inexpensive and free classes. I’m not that familiar with knitting in and fiber arts in this area, but many areas have a place for a knitting field trip. I also like that knitting is portable. I can take my dog to the park and he might let me knit for 10 minutes.
I don’t have a strong desire to study the history of puzzles and board games even though I love Monopoly. I just like to play them. So, I guess I could reseach a bunch of games. There’s an austrailian game I want but it’s almost $30. That could be an expensive hobby. I won’t even mention puzzles.
I recently started light research on a true crime case. It’s a famous one from the late 80s but I was going to attempt to look at this case from the newer research on trauma. It’s kind of overwhelming when I think about it but at least most people have heard of the case and I don’t have to spend a lot of time on the backgrounds of people. I think I’m going to end up writing a 300 to 400 word article (very short) just going over the main points and maybe revisitng it later on. I hope to have that article out by December, but if it’s not fun, I don’t have to do it.
I don’t have gardening, plants, or flowers mentioned. I know a lot about plants. I’ve read about gardening, but I don’t have a fence, so I wouldn’t be surprised if a garden got destroyed. BUT today I randomly saw two local plant and flower classes. Out of the blue! I didn’t even know those places existed. I thought the only place to buy plants, besides department stores around here, was a garden store 25 minutes away. Nope. I’m extremely exhausted, but I’m considering visiting a nursery and possibly buying a house plant on Saturday.
The problem with indoor classes is that people expect you to perform socially and speak in a certain way. Both of these classes are downtown and mention wine. I don’t drink. How much time will be wasted on drinking and watching strangers do small talk? I’m really bummed that the Terranium class sold out. But it’s on a Wednesday night and it costs $75…..However, I would love to have a finished terrarium.
I read a book about terraniums last summmer. Guess what? No terranium. Pretty book, though.
So, it looks like I’m doing book binding. I would love to create a few thin books or journals. I don’t think it’s the cheapest hobby, but I can see if I can reuse the wood I have. No fancy supplies.
I haven’t accomplished anything in the last 30 days. I barely slept. I got 3 hours on a good night. I made a list of things I want/need to get done, and it’s extremely long. I will try to complete the tasks before October so I can start a bookbinding curriculum. Maybe.
I will post some of the curriculum. Not sure how long it will be. I don’t have anything yet. All the things I saw workshops from 2023.
