So much! Don’t try to follow general advice is one of the top ones. I know better by now. But my life is almost over! I knew some of it wasn’t true like “just be yourself.” Imagine if I did that. I would be worse off right now. But I did spend too much time wondering why people were saying such silly things.
When people give advice, they are talking to people like them OR if it’s in a self-help book, it’s for middle class people who are within the norm. I wondered why I kept getting bad advice. I wasn’t sure, but when I started doing the opposite, it usually worked better (not perfect – better) even when it was about superficial things like what I wore. Amazing.
So, listen to no one because they aren’t talking to you is what I would say to someone like me. I will never get back the time and energy I’ve wasted on doing what others recommend.
Read this past month:
- Couple Found Slain: After a Family Murder by Mikita Brottman – A disturbing look into a Maryland facility that houses people who are found guilty but go to a mental facility instead of prison. Some get released. Some don’t.
- Parkinson’s Disease Guide for the Newly Diagnosed: Understanding the Disease, Managing Your Symptoms & Navigating Treatment by Peter Lewitt – Superficial book about Parkinson’s but it is for the newly diagnosed. Just surprised by some of the incorrect things included in the book since the author is an MD.
- My Sister’s Daughter by Liv Constantine – If every domestic thriller was this short, I would enjoy them more.
- My Good Side by Scheana Shay – Loved it. More memoirs for me.
- Nice Girls Don’t Win by Parvati Shallow – Great for Parv fans
I had two months in a row that I only read 2 or 3 books, but I’m back. Didn’t leave the house much. Didn’t do anything except work and read (due to a medical issue that left me feeling blah – hope that’s temporary.)
Currently Reading: (too many to list but here are a few)
- Sensing Light by Mark A. Jacobson
- Unfollowed by Christian White, Summer DeRoche
- No Place for Autism? by Dr. Jim Hoerricks
