This might be a series until I finish answering all the questions or it might not…………I don’t have to answer these, but it is helpful for writing marketing copy, so I plan to do it over the next few weeks or days. I will hashtag this #MyFreelanceStory so I can find the entries in the future.
What inspired you to start your business?
I needed and wanted money, and freedom was the original reason. Without needing money, I wouldn’t have been successful so fast. It was desperation.
Before I started freelancing…
I was doing the same thing I’m doing now. Working for a boss. I don’t want to mention what I do now for obvious reasons. I haven’t done a variety of work before. I did mostly office work after college, and prior to graduating, I also did some warehouse work. I didn’t lift anything heavy because I could never lift anything heavy.
So, it was office stuff in a warehouse. The best part about that was working the overnight shift sometimes. I loved working the night shift. Now, I love working at home as my #1 choice. But if I lost my job and couldn’t find something remotely, I would see if there’s any warehouse work without lifting before giving up and living on the street. It’s been so long since I’ve done that.
“Why not?” moments in business
All the time. Every new idea is a why not moment. But I don’t always finish everything, or it might not get released. Sometimes, I release it but don’t promote it. Every new idea or product can be a “why not” moment.
How did I learn what I know for online business?
Mostly self-taught. I’ve taken several online classes in almost every subject during my first couple of years of business. Now, I read in-depth articles on things like SEO or anything that changes a lot. I also had coaching that was mostly about things like having a holistic business and not hard, boring skills. But I was in a group coaching program that taught me to launch about 4 years ago (2020 or 2021)
What biggest setback or challenge, and how did I overcome it?
Ugh. I hate this question. I might come back to it or keep avoiding it. I had a serious chronic illness in 2020/2021. I overcome things by just doing what I have to do. Nothing special. I need money, so I have to work to find a place to live and care for my dog.
First lightbulb moment in business
That I can make money on my own BUT I also realized that having a business isn’t that different from having a job. All of it involves selling myself. (I hate selling myself so this isn’t a good thing.)
I finally did part II in May of 2025.
Last day of February (so far, this year is going so slow) so I will recap the music I’ve listened to this month.

- Adele
- Justin Timberlake
