some days i just want to kill myself
———
anyhow, i don’t feel comfortable talking specifically about the Chris Brown and his girlfriend situation because i don’t know what happened. wasn’t there. however, the responses to this disgust me (quick to blame the person who went to the hospital aka the victim), and astonish me. i hate to use chris as the example but it’s what i have. for the past two years, he has been saying that he watched his mom be physically abused. he said he was terrified and wants to kill his step father. POINT: we have a person growing up in a violent situation.
um, people often repeat what happened to them. this isn’t an excuse. IT IS REALITY. how many sexual abusers were abused themselves? how many women marry men like their distant or abusive father? It is a vicious cycle. why do people care so much about children/adults being abused IF THERE AREN’T ANY EFFECTS?? this boggles my mind. back to the chris brown situation. it is about the responses. people saying things like “His seeing abuse should make him less likely to abuse” HUH? what world are these people living in?
no not ALL people repeat what is done to them. some people internalize it. other people have supportive people around them. some people are just born with this inner strength. PEOPLE ARE DIFFERENT.
80% of abused children met the criteria of a psychiatric disorder by age 21. (pstd, anxiety, depression etc).
Abusive parents often have experienced abuse during their own childhoods. It is estimated approximately one-third of abused and neglected children will eventually victimize their own children.
Boys who witness domestic violence are more likely to batter their female partners as adults than boys raised in nonviolent homes. There is no evidence, however, that girls who witness their mothers’ abuse have a higher risk of being battered as adults.
this is not an excuse. abusers must go to jail but i think most also need counseling or they are just going to repeat what they know.
i could have found better sources but that takes time. trust me i would read scientific journals for fun on friday nights. to me the above is obvious. i won’t be reading/listening to anymore discussion about the Brown situation. #1 too much gossip aka WRONG info is being repeated. #2 i’m done with being ‘shocked’ by ignorance.
