Is it just that autism is stressful? We know that stress can put people at risk for all sorts of mental disorders, and having autism is undoubtedly stressful.
– Christopher M. Palmer MD
I’ve been thinking how full of it doctors are (and other medical people) so this quote is quite refreshing. And yes, stress is harmful. And being autistic is extremely stressful. It depends on the environment, support, and other factors.
Just speaking for myself, I don’t “feel as autistic” when I’m in a quiet environment with no humans. My stress goes down. Therefore, most of my sensory issues go down. Life is easier. Sensory stuff is overwhelming to many autistic people. Overwhelming = stress to the mind and body.
Why do 70% of autistic people have GI problems? Um. Well, I have to think about that. Hmmm. Tylenol? Or could it be STRESS? Btw, only 70%? That’s what the research says.
This is why I scream so much about letting the treatment of autistic people (and other groups) be, because a lot of the stress is man-made and unnecessary, but whatever. Want to “cure autism”?? Well…oh, I see. Never mind. I’ll just take an aspirin and hope for the best. And then die.

Doctors can’t cure stress. Or can they? Are they adding to it? YES. They aren’t asking the right questions, and their medical “treatment” is horrid. Many of them would agree. But they blame it on “not understanding”. (That PhD looks impressive.) BS. It’s all lies, just like how they mistreated other groups in the past. They denied the severity menopause symptoms…not that long ago.
I can go on and on. I’ll hold them accountable until I die because the world won’t. But trust me, every stressful day, I’m holding people accountable. I won’t let people gaslight another group of people.
(Sidenote: I’m probably not supposed to mention this quote because some people might get the wrong idea. But I don’t play games. NO spin. It’s a quote. It is what it is. Good, bad, indifferent. )
Quotes galore! Another:
Autistic individuals thus constitute an identity-based minority and may be exposed to excess social stress as a result of disadvantaged and stigmatized social status.
What? I don’t understand. How is this possible? Hmmm. I wonder what that is like. I’m clueless.
Here’s another interesting quote that I had to share because I’m not sure I’ve seen it before. But it hits.
“Diabetes is a disease that often shows itself in families in which insanity prevails.”
Sir Henry Maudsley, 1878
I’m not diabetic, btw. (Yet). Anyway, he said that in 1878. Interesting. Another doctor. An Australian psychiatrist. What would he think now? “These people have solved nothing!!!”
