More survey questions and what I’ve been reading and listening to this week

What types of resources, if any, do you turn to for general guidance on self-help/mental health, and health/wellness? (list to choose from)

Reddit, health websites (Mayo, Cleveland Clinic), therapists/expert websites, online articles, podcasts

Imagine you are looking for your next book related to topics of mental health/self-help/health, what is your step-by-step process.

  1. First, I would search Amazon to see what books are available.
  2. I might see what books are available to me now through Kindle Unlimited, Hoopla, Audible or Overdrive. (I have an extension on my browser that can check these sites through Amazon.)
  3. Last, I either put the books on my wish list if I have to purchase it or get the book if available now.

What words or phrases would come to mind during your online search? We’re looking for words or phrases that are action/descriptive words beyond topics themselves.

I was given a few titles and asked what I liked and disliked about it title:

Book#1: A book for Christians about forgiveness. I’m interested in “true forgiveness.” I’m not religious, but from the title, I can tell the book would be interesting. If I were in a bookstore, I would flip through the book to see how religious it is and then make a decision. If I’m online and can see a preview, I would read that or look at reviews.

———

Book#2: A book about healing from codependency and having boundaries. I don’t find books about boundaries helpful. They never mention how to have boundaries when what you want could get you fired just for asking. I’m not allowed to make demands at my job. It’s for people who have leadership jobs (managers, etc.), so I can’t relate to that. And I disagree with a lot of boundaries talk because I find it unrealistic, so I wouldn’t read an entire book about it. Codependency is somewhat interesting. I’ve never read an entire book about it.

I assume it’s religious because the word “devotional” is in the title, so I would check to see if it’s overly religious to me. I’d be interested in prayers, but I’d be concerned if they mentioned God frequently. I would browse and read reviews before buying.

Book#3 A book about raising sons with Christian values. I don’t have kids, so I never read books specifically for parents, even though some of the books may be interesting. I would read a short article instead or an interview with the author, rather than a whole book.

I like that there are books for “good character.” It’s a good, specific title for people interested in this topic. But I guess I dislike the topic.

Book#4 A Christian pregnancy journal: I dislike the topic. I’m not interested in pregnancy or parenting. However, the title is suitable for those who are interested.

Strange. Did I tell them somewhere that I’m religious? If I did it was clearly a mistake. I think I gave them decent info on other topics, but I’m not religious or a parent. I’m pretty sure they have never asked about kids. Bet I won’t get those questions again.
