Prepared for Silence

Wrote the following to people who won’t do anything. Some people have more power than others. I consider this feedback only. Not a request.

To Whom It May Concern:

I am writing regarding the income eligibility limits for the [leaving name of the program out] under Medicaid. As an individual with autism and , —– I was recently denied Medicaid coverage due to my income, resulting in the loss of my [program name] This denial came despite my placement on the priority list due to significant need for services, where I was slated to receive the Building Independence waiver.

While I acknowledge that my income exceeds Medicaid’s current threshold, I find myself in an impossible situation: I earn too much to qualify for assistance, yet not enough to afford the essential services I need. I would gladly contribute 30% or more of the costs, but the current system doesn’t allow for such arrangements.

I question whether the program’s implementation aligns with its fundamental purpose of supporting individuals with disabilities. My ability to maintain remote work shouldn’t disqualify me from receiving vital assistance, especially considering that my disabilities prevent me from working in traditional office settings.

My current living situation illustrates the critical need for these services. I reside in a home with extensive mold contamination in my bedroom. In recent years, I fell victim to two financial scams that depleted my savings, and I endured six months without functioning plumbing in 2024. These challenges might have been prevented with the support of the [name of program], as I require assistance with daily living activities.

While I support the program’s mission to help those in poverty, I’m concerned about the gap it creates for working-class individuals, particularly those without dependent children. These income restrictions create ripple effects throughout our communities, leaving many vulnerable people without necessary support.

The process of pursuing this waiver, only to be denied based solely on income, has been deeply disheartening. This system excludes hundreds of individuals like me who fall into this coverage gap. I urge the (state) to consider revising these income limitations, not just for my benefit, but for all those who need these essential services.

Thank you for your consideration,

I’ve only emailed three people/entities so far. Some people might require a letter through the mail. I might do that, but probably not within the next month. I have a printer. But where are my stamps?

I have a headache now. It’ horrible how people with disabilities are expected to keep asking for the basics. Rarely do they acknowledge how traumatizing it can be to keep hearing no.
