No Humans Allowed

Daily writing prompt
Who do you spend the most time with?

My dog. I feel bad for him. He doesn’t have much of a choice but to be stuck with me. But I know what he loves to do, and I do it (unless I’m feeling sick). I get his favorite treats. Now he loves these bones that are the most expensive bones he’s ever regularly had. (They’re not expensive for the average person—maybe $1.75 a bone.)

I know this is nuts! But I was even thinking about getting another dog ($$$!) because I work so much. I feel bad when he comes to me, and I’m being timed at my second job. Most of the time, stopping would be a bad idea. I get timed more at my PT job than my day job!! I didn’t think that was possible, but unfortunately, it is.

As if I need MORE pressure in my life.

My dog doesn’t like other dogs. I think he may get along with some dogs, but I wouldn’t want to adopt a dog to find out. He got used to one dog and tolerated her when he saw her once every few days. But he hates being touched. Most dogs just want to jump all over him. He can only stand that for about one minute, and then he starts begging me to get the other dog away from him.

I did 40 hours at my FT job. And I can do 40 hours (rare) at my PT job. I wish I had enough energy for that!! That’s impossible for me. I will try to do 12 hours at the PT job this week. Last week, I did 8 hours. I’m only about 5 hours, so I have seven more. Sigh.

Music by decade. 2020s Top album - he Tortured Poets Department by Taylor Swift

TV of the week: Dexter

Books of the month: I can’t remember where I left on with documenting my reading.

  • Now reading: The Good Liar by Catherine McKenzie. Fiction. Decent book. I’m about 80% through. This is a very slow book for me. I expected more of a thriller. The writing and the story are good enough to leave me with the desire to finish. But I must admit that I’ve been reading this book for weeks and it’s not that long. It’s 382 pages.
  • I might not finish The Dead Husband by Gillian Jackson. Fiction. Mystery. It’s not a bad book so far, but the audio version is not great. I hate when sound fluctuates. I’m working or trying to relax, and someone starts yelling or has a high-pitched voice. This happens with podcasts all the time. The commercials will be loud or less common, I can’t stand a voice. I stop listening to those podcasts all the time. But I rarely have this problem with an audiobook. I am about 25% through. I may get the kindle or book version or just keep listening to it for short periods.
  • I finished Possessed by Kathryn Casey in May. Nonfiction. True Crime. I usually like this author’s book. This one was decent, but some stuff could have been left out. I thought there would be more of an explanation of why so much detail was left in this book, but Casey gave no reason. I was surprised that I’ve never heard about this case. It seems to be well known in Houston, Texas. I always feel bad for the deceased. But this was different. He was a quiet person. And I ended up really admiring him.

Recent listened to podcasts: Voices for Justice, Truth & Justice, Blood is Thicker (ugh. way too slow. An obvious money grab by a big company – CBS!!), The Docket, True Sunlight, Align by Design, The Old Man and Three
